Stopping Mold Damage in Dublin

9/27/2017 (Permalink)

Moisture causes mold to grow along with a food source, such as drywall. If you discover mold growth on your walls, call SERVPRO to remediate.

How Mold Grows and Spreads in Your Home

Mold is nearly everywhere in Dublin. The only places you do not find its spores are surgical theaters and clean laboratory rooms. Fortunately, the mold is not a threat unless it has certain conditions.

Mold damage in a Dublin home happens when these spores come into contact with enough moisture and food at the right temperature range. Since that range is about 68 to 86 Degrees, that covers most homes in New Hampshire and around the country, year-round. To stop mold and restore the damage, SERVPRO technicians have studied each growth pattern and determined the best way to interrupt it.

Spores are dormant until they come into contact with water. It takes very little moisture to cause several to expand, extending hyphae out. These structures grow out over and into surfaces, searching for a food source like wood, cellulose, natural fibers like wool and cotton, and drywall. Since it is impossible to remove all of these materials, our technicians pull down and dispose of those pieces already infested.

The temperature range for mold growth is also the comfort range for homeowners, raising or lowering it past those levels is difficult and expensive. Those levels must be artificially maintained to prevent future growth, which would be even more challenging, especially in cooler months.

Because of these factors, SERVPRO concentrates on removing the moisture source and then cleaning existing mold. The source inside a home is usually from a dripping or otherwise damaged pipe. To find the source, we trace the mold growth to locate the starting point. It usually gives us the moisture source so we can identify it and repair the leak, be it a pipe or even minor damage to the roof. Our technicians can repair all of this, to include replacing a roof if needed.

Once we stop the leak, we use anti-microbial sprays to destroy the active spores. If we find infested building material, we remove and dispose of it. It is necessary to destroy the mold first as that lowers the chance of accidentally spreading spores as we remove the infested pieces from the house.
